8. Architect
More people have looked through the telescopes of the Los Angeles Griffith Observatory than through any other telescopes on the planet. Architect Steven Johnson, who headed the renovation of the observatory, explains how the principles of geometry were used to redesign the space and allow optimal viewing of the constellations at night, sunsets in the evening, and views of downtown LA throughout the day. Johnson describes math as a language that gives us a way to understand relationships and proportions, and to describe the physical world around us.
